A PROJECT to get more children exploring Reading’s parks and wild places is appealing for help to bag a £50,000 cash injection.

Nature Nurture CIC, which runs the Wild Reading Project which encourages children to get outside and play in the borough’s parks, woodlands and wild areas, is hoping to win the cash from the ITV’s People’s Millions grant - funded through the National Lottery.

The organisation, founded by Natalie Ganpatsingh, will use the cash to provide free nature-themed Family Wild Day events, workshops for schools, training for teachers, and outdoor play days for children.

But to secure the cash the organisation needs neighbours around the borough to tune in for the final on Monday, November 24, and vote for the project.

Natalie is urging people to sign up on the group’s website to receive a reminder to vote when the group appears on ITV Meridian that evening.

She said: “We are so excited to be People’s Millions finalists and winning would help us to get more people out and enjoying Reading’s under used but beautiful open spaces.

“We really hope that people will pick up their phones so we win the money and get families out and having fun together in Reading’s great outdoors.”

The organisation has already run a number of family wild days at Prospect Park and McIlroy Park where children have taken a walk on the wild side building dens, hunting bugs and playing conkers as well as a variety of nature-themed arts and crafts. It works with the borough council, National Trust and schools and nurseries across the borough.

The grant would also cover the costs to build a Wild Reading Website, with maps, apps and activity ideas.
