AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into a historic rape at a bail hostel in Coley.
Between June and December 1989 a woman was raped by an unknown man in a bathroom at the Elizabeth Fry Bail Hostel, in Coley Avenue.
Police are appealing for anyone who was either working or a residents of the woman’s hostel to help with their enquiries.
Detective Constable Steven Martin, from Reading Force CID, said: “I am appealing for anyone to come forward who may have knowledge of any of the residents or staff at the hostel at this time.
“Thames Valley Police takes reports of all offences, including those of a historic nature, seriously and we are currently investigating this offence of rape.
“People may remember this was a time when internationally the events at Tiananmen Square were being reported on the news, the Marchioness boat disaster in London took place and Boris Becker won the Wimbledon singles title.
“Locally, at around this time at this particular bail hostel, a person fell from a first floor window and sustained serious injuries. I hope this information will help to jog memories.”
