A POLICE officer is under investigation in connection with a fatal traffic collision in east Reading.

Aston McLean Williams was killed in Wokingham Road after colliding with a marked police 4x4 which was responding to a 999 call about a burglary in Eastern Avenue at around 1.45am on Wednesday, August 6.

While the 28-year-old father-of-two was declared dead at the scene a police officer on foot was rushed to hospital with minor shoulder injuries but has since been discharged.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has served the driver of the police car a notice informing them they are under investigation for potential criminal and misconduct matters.

The police watchdog has also released two CCTV camera images of two men walking along Wokingham Road, near the junction with Eastern Avenue who may have seen the collision.

The first man is wearing a wearing light denim jeans, carrying a rucksack and wearing either a jacket with a dark body and light coloured sleeves or a body warmer while the second is wearing jeans, a light coloured top, a dark baseball cap and is on the phone.

IPCC Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori said the investigation is making good progress and added: “That work has led to the identification of two men in the CCTV who were in the area at around the same time as the incident.

“We encourage them, or anyone who believes they know who they are, to contact our investigation.

“This remains a difficult and sensitive time for Aston’s family and loved ones as they are still coming to terms with their loss.”

Witnesses who saw the men or know who they are being urged to call the IPCC investigation team on 0800 092 0340 or email wokinghamroad@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk.
