A POT left on a hot stove nearly sparked a kitchen fire in Whitley early this morning.
A neighbour in Newcastle Road raised the alarm at around 1am and firefighters from Whitley Wood and Caversham Fire Stations rushed to the ground floor flat which had filled up with smoke.
The crews entered the home and helped a man escape before removing the charred remains of the pot from the stove and ventilating the flat.
