READING East MP Rob Wilson has praised the work of a charity which helps provide toys for struggling families.
First Days, based in Headley Road East in Woodley, also collects unwanted clothes, baby equipment and furniture which can be handed on to parents in need across the Wokingham borough.
Mr Wilson: “It’s so often the case that parents buy brand new clothing and equipment for their children and then dispose of them when they are of no more use.
“It is such a waste when items like pushchairs and cots are discarded, especially when many of them are in very good condition and there is a great demand for them elsewhere.”
The charity was set up last year by Emma Cantrell, who gave Mr Wilson a guided tour of the offices and storage facilities on Friday, April 4, with chairwoman of trustees Marjie Walker.
Emma said the charity has helped more than 200 families in the last year thanks to the generosity of residents and the hard work of the charity’s staff and volunteers.
Mr Wilson added: “This really is a fantastic charity that is definitely going places. Emma has identified a genuine need in the area, with many parents not being in a financial position to spend thousands of pounds on brand new equipment. I will do what I can to raise awareness of the charity and to ensure that those who are most in need can gain access to this good quality clothing and equipment.”
