REAL ale enthusiasts are being encouraged to take a tour of Reading’s boozers to earn prizes.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is launching its ale trail at the Nags Head in Russell Street, west Reading, at 3pm tomorrow giving drinkers the chance to collect stickers at 20 pubs and win free beer or T-shirts.

Pub lovers can pick up a booklet at the Nags Head, Alehouse in Broad Street or Royal Oak in Tilehurst and then claim a sticker for every pub they visit.

The route stretches from central Reading to Hurst, Twyford, Waltham St Lawrence and Tidmarsh and trekkers who successfully visit every pub within two months will get beer vouchers for the Reading Beer and Cider Festival in May, or a T-shirt.

Reading and Mid Berkshire CAMRA chairman Dan Cane-Honeysett said: “The ale trail is always popular and this year it’s more important then ever to encourage people to get out and about and visit their local pubs.

“All the pubs on the trail have been chosen because they sell good quality real ale and some also stock real cider, so it should be great fun visiting them all and choosing your favourite.”

Completed booklets will be entered into a draw where boxes of beer and cider donated by local breweries and producers can be won.
