Reading Marathon tragedy - family tribute
THE family of a runner who died after collapsing at the finish line during yesterday's Reading Half Marathon have described him as a "happy and thoughtful" man who believed in doing things to the best of his ability.
Ged Clarke, 39, from Calcot, was treated at the Madejski Stadium by medics before being taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite desperate attempts to resuscitate him.
He ran the Twitter account @12pmclub, aimed at getting people to be active during their lunch breaks.
A statement from his family, released through Reading Half Marathon organisers Sweatshop tonight, read: "Ged was a wonderful husband to Estelle and father to their two children, Jake and Jessica.
"He will be missed terribly by all his family and friends. He will be remembered for his happy and thoughtful character, and his great belief in doing things to the best of his ability, something his family will continue in believing for him."
Sweatshop managing director Nick Pearson added "This is deeply upsetting and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this distressing time".
