Stray spark may have caused tree fire
A STRAY spark from a chimney may have started an undergrowth fire that spread to a pine tree this morning (Sunday).
Firefighters from Newbury were called at 6am to Carbinswood Lane in Upper Bucklebury at 6am to the garden of one of the Bucklebury Place apartments, occupied by a middle-aged man.
Delta watch manager Richard Young said: "It was probably accidental - perhaps an ember from a chimney or something like that."
The fire got into the peat soil and took firefighters an hour and a half to make sure it was properly extinguished.
