Woman dies after being pulled from river
A WOMAN has died after being pulled from the river this morning (Saturday).
Police said this afternoon said they had not yet identified the woman, who was white and had been in a wheelchair.
Officers were called to the River Kennet near Cholmeley Road in Newtown at 10.12am after reports a woman's body had been seen in the water. Emergency services pulled her out and took her to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Detective Chief Inspector Linda York said: "At this time we have no information about the woman and we are trying to trace her next of kin.
"All we can say is that she was a white woman and that she was in a wheelchair, which was found next to the river.
"I would urge anyone who was in the area who may have seen this woman immediately prior to this incident to come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.
"At this stage we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances behind this incident, but our investigation is on-going."
