Roads closed as runners get on their marks

READING's half marathon kicks off today and people are being warned that roads across the town will be closed as runners pound the pavements.

Most road closures will start at 9am and re-open between 10.30am and 1pm.

The entire length of Longwater Avenue, Brook Drive, Northern Way, Hoops Way and Shooters Way will be closed from 7am-2pm.

Other roads affected between 9am and 1pm are: A33 (north and southbound), Bennet Road, Basingstoke Road, Island Road, Hartland Road, Northumberland Avenue, Whitley Wood Road, Shinfield Road, Pepper Lane, Christchurch Road, Kendrick Road, London Road, London Street, Mill Lane (north and southbound), Duke Street, Thorn Lane, Yield Hall Place, Minster Street, Gun Street, King Street, King's Road, Abbey Square, Abbey Street, Abbots Walk, The Forbury, Butter Market, High Street, Market Place, Blagrave Street, Valpy Street, Friar Street, Station Road, West Street, Oxford Road, Russell Street, Tilehurst Road, Liebenrood Road, Bath Road, Castle Hill, Coley Avenue, Berkeley Avenue and Rose Kiln Lane (northbound).

Access to Royal Berkshire Hospital will be from London Road, Berkshire Independent Hospital from Bath Road/Berkeley Avenue, Dunedin Hospital from the IDR Castle Hill Bath Road access line, but allow for delays.
