RUNNERS are limbering up for the Wokingham Half Marathon on Sunday.

A series of road closures will be in place for the event, which is in its 26th year and is due to feature 2,750 runners, plus their supporters, to raise money for good causes.

The race will start at 10am at Cantley Park, off Twyford Road in Wokingham, where runners will also cross the finish line.

Last year's winner Liz Yelling, who holds the course record, will be back in the elite starting line-up.

Peter Evans, chairman of the organising committee, said: "We've been full since the beginning of January, so it is as popular as ever. It's one of the first events of the year, so people who are doing the London Marathon tend to mark it as their first race just to see how their preparation has gone."

There will also be races for nine to 11-year-olds and 12 to 16-year-olds. Last year the committee was able to give £10,000 to local charities, in addition to the money individual runners made from sponsorship for their chosen charities. Road closures will be in place from 9am-1.30pm while signs are displayed. Roads will be opened as soon as possible after the last runners finish the course.
