AN electrical blaze was contained by firefighters after residents smelt burning in their block of flats.
One fire crew from Dee Road fire station was called to the flats at Southcote Manor in Hatford Road at 6.30am this morning (Sunday).
Crew manager Rob Read from Dee Road fire station said: “The fire was contained to the fuse board. Someone smelt it before there was enough smoke to set the fire alarms off, which were on when we got there.”
Firefighters isolated the power at the main intake for the flats and were there for 40 minutes.
Crew manager Read added: “This re-enforces that everyone should have detectors fitted in their homes. They were very lucky to smell it. Having the detectors there would have meant we would have got there in enough time anyway.”
The flats were not evacuated and the only damage was charring on the fuse board.
