FIREFIGHTERS averted an electrical fire after worried residents noticed smoke filling their block of flats.

A fire crew from Wokingham Road were called to the flats in Zindan Street, West Reading, at 12.36pm today (Saturday).

The fuse box supporting the flats’ main electricity supply was smouldering and firefighters were there for 45 minutes until the electricity board arrived.

Crew Manager Simon Stephenson said: “Unqualified people should not play with the electricity intake. If anyone spots a smouldering fuse box, call the fire brigade or the electricity board.”
