A READING leisure centre shut because of a methane gas scare is fully open for business again.
Essential maintenance - unconnected to the original scare - at Rivermead Leisure Centre in Richfield Avenue meant the swimming pool did not reopen until yesterday, even though other 'dry' facilities were open again on Friday.
Rivermead had been closed to the public since last Wednesday afternoon when staff detected a smell of gas.
It was caused by the failure of a pump designed to extract any methane gas that may build up beneath the Leisure Centre, which is built on a former landfill site.
