BEEKEEPERS keen to introduce more people to their hobby are giving expert guidance at an open day later this month.
Reading and District Beekeepers Association is holding its second annual introductory event on Saturday, March 20, from 10.30am-4pm at Mapledurham Memorial Hall in Trench Green.
Experienced beekeepers will give step-by-step advice and even people with no interest in devoting their lives to bees can still come along to have fun and find out more about the insects.
Mike Lawson Foster, of Alexandra Road, is helping organise the event and said: "People are becoming more aware of the importance of pollinating insects for the future, and that bees are under threat in the UK and worldwide."
He added: "Keeping bees within urban areas produces high-quality honey because of the close proximity of a wide variety of plants and trees."
The event is free but to give organisers an idea on numbers, call 07860 713 928 or email mikestellafoster@yahoo.co.uk
