EMPLOYMENT advice sessions have been set up at a children's centre to make jobseeking easier for busy parents.

Caversham Children's Centre in Amersham Road has teamed up with Jobcentre Plus to offer advice on the first Wednesday of every month, 10.15am-1pm.

Mum-of-two Tanya Newing, 33, was among the first to take advantage of the service last week.

She said: "It's very handy and saves having to go into town, which is really helpful - the main Jobcentre isn't the nicest place to take kids. The lady there had some good advice, too."

Support includes help with job searches, identifying training courses, help with childcare and also advice on tax credits.

Centre co-ordinator Becky Barnard said: "The monthly drop-in that Jobcentre Plus provides at the Children's Centre is an excellent example of working together. By providing these services from the Children's Centre in the heart of the community we are enabling more local families to access a variety of support services."

Jobcentre Plus's regional partnership manager, Karen Brown, said: "We do all we can to support parents back into work that fits in with school hours and childcare arrangements.

"Getting back to work can boost confidence, sends a message to the children that they can achieve things and be successful in life and it can also improve a family's finances."
