TORY shadow ministers flooded into Reading West to back Alok Sharma's run for Parliament.

As Gordon Brown gave his speech in Reading Town Hall on Monday, Reading East MP Rob Wilson and 13 leading Tories helped to deliver leaflets and canvass voters in the seat.

Mr Wilson said: "I am delighted at the level of support that Alok has received. He is already working hard for local people and we are all behind him because we all know he will be a brilliant MP."

In total 30 Conservative MPs turned up to help and Mr Sharma added: "I was absolutely delighted by the number of Conservative MPs who turned out to help my campaign in Reading West and get the Conservative message out."

Visiting were:

- Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Theresa May

- Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Nick Herbert

- Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, Sir George Young

- Shadow Defence Minister, Gerald Howarth

- Shadow Agriculture Minister, Richard Benyon

- Shadow Minister for Innovation and Science, Adam Afriyie

- Shadow Minister for Northern Ireland, Laurence Robertson

- Shadow Minister for Defence, Gerald Howarth

- Shadow Minister for the Family, Maria Miller

- Shadow Minister for Communities and Local Government, Stewart Jackson

- Shadow Deputy Leader of the House, Shailesh Vara

- Opposition Chief Whip, Patrick McLoughlin
