Paul Devlin

READING'S best-known ghostbuster is dealing with more and more spooky goings-on across the town.

Paul Devlin, who heads up paranormal investigators Ghost Medics, has recently finished a six-week investigation into supposed hauntings at the Reading Moat House hotel and Poachers Pub in Mill Lane, near Lower Earley.

He is discussing his findings at a presentation on Sunday night at the hotel.

Mr Devlin, 38, from Caversham, said: "The site is steeped in history - Dick Turpin used to drink in the Poachers. We certainly found enough evidence of things going on; lots of orbs [light anomalies], electronic voice phenomena on recordings, the unexplained sound of children laughing...

"The site was an old workhouse and we think a church. Some staff have talked about hearing a horse and carriage outside when nothing is there."

The Ghost Medics team is made up of six investigators, always including one sceptic, who all have different spirit specialisms.

They do free house calls for those feeling troubled by poltergeists, which Paul says are becoming more frequent with the team now doing four to five call-outs a month.

They also investigate old buildings with a history of haunting reports, such as the Mansion House in Prospect Park, Tilehurst Station and the Roebuck Hotel in Oxford Road, claimed to be the unhappy resting place of an eighteenth-century admiral who died in a fire.

Mr Devlin often appears at psychic fairs in Reading and Bracknell and was for two years a regular guest on BBC Radio Berkshire.

Sunday night's presentation at the Moat House, from 6pm, will include recorded evidence of strange happenings from the hotel and the team's other investigations. Tickets, with food provided, cost £19.99 from www.ghostmedics.com or on 07884 051 904. Anyone with a paranormal problem can get free help from the team.
