Park and ride shut as river levels rise

THE Loddon Bridge park and ride is closed today due to flooding fears.

The Environment Agency has a flood watch in place on the River Loddon, which runs alongside the car park and often bursts its banks, and the site is being monitored.

The flood watch, which covers the Loddon from Swallowfield up to Waltham St Lawrence, was issued yesterday (Monday) afternoon and refreshed this morning.

  I wonder who the idiot (or idiots) was that allowed this park and ride to be built on a flood plain in the first place . Well done fool!

  The town needs this facility, so where would you build the park and ride? Incidentally, you can't raise levels at this location as it would affect residential properties further up stream. Half of Reading is built on the flood plain of the River Thames let alone the River Loddon.
  
  Allowing a car park to flood is far more acceptable than allowing residential properties to flood.
  
  It is oh so easy for the likes of Howard Thomas to massage his ego whilst sitting at his computer screen every evening. It is far more difficult to design and implement practical solutions.
  
  Instead of exposing your ignorance and the rest of us to your petty name calling which does nothing to enhance readers understanding of the issues. I suggest you keep your insults to yourself and go back to massaging your ego in private.
