A LAW to clamp down on rogue street traders in Reading has passed a major Parliamentary hurdle after a two-year legislative logjam.
Reading and Leeds' private bills to stop peddlers abusing their permits cleared the Commons and will now go before the Lords.
Christchurch Tory MP Christopher Chope has been the main blockade in the past, as he campaigns for the historic rights of peddlers to sell their wares in the streets. But he said the Reading and Leeds bills - unlike similar ones for Manchester and Bournemouth, which were blocked again - were an acceptable compromise.
Reading licensing staff hope for a result by the summer.
