WILLMETT solicitors has gone into administration with the loss of 60 jobs, after it lost a £1.35million negligence claim.

Staff at its offices in Castle Street, Reading, Headley Road, Woodley, Sheet Street, Windsor and Broadway, Maidenhead, were told the news on Monday and all offices will close on Thursday, December 3.

Clients were queuing in the Woodley offices on Tuesday to collect their files.

The collapse of the firm centres around one of its former partners, Jonathan Gilbert. Mr Gilbert went missing in March after he had acted for Guernsey-based Elegant Homes over a development site in Bray.

Staff at the firm had been on a four day week for some time and last year a number were made redundant from its property division.
