Council boss praise for SEEDA man

RBC chief executive Michael Coughlin
READING council boss Michael Coughlin has praised the outgoing chairman of SEEDA for his support for Reading's future.
Jim Braithwaite, the longest serving chairman of any regional development agency, last week stepped down from the role.
Mr Coughlin, chief executive of Reading Borough Council, said Mr Braithwaite's business knowledge and helped policy makers and industry.
Mr Coughlin said: ""SEEDA helped us tremendously with our bid for significant support from the Transport Innovation Fund for infrastructure projects. Jim has been a strong advocate for the Crossrail and Airtrack projects which will benefit Thames Valley and Reading in the future."
Mr Braithwaite said he had felt privileged to support the town's ambitions.

It is interesting that when we had the One-way IDR Commission; Tony Travers, the economist (one of the commissioners, was interested in views on how you stop these types of quangos influencing the town. My view is simple you ensure that the town have Councillors who represent the interests of the town and not the interests of Government. Reading has been poorly serviced over the past ten years because of the overall Labour control of Parliament and within the town. So I am glad that finally we are moving away from the authoritarian attitudes of the current lead party and perhaps we will be in unchartered waters next May with nore Councillors who are not party loyal, but town focused. Oh I am so cheeky!

Thank God the Liebour people are moving on, perhaps we can still and get this town out of a hole!
It's a shame Coughlin isn't going with him, but give it time, give it time .....!

Ahh yes, Jim Braithwaite, who spent £50,000 a year on taxis and chauffeur driven cars as well as other expenses. What a good use of tax payers money. Is it a surprise that SEEDA is a target for reform or abolition should the Conservatives win power next year?
