SO many people are starting their own businesses one landlord has introduced a shared office service to cope with demand.

Avanta, which runs serviced offices in Kings Road, reports a mini-boom in enquiry levels.

Geraint Evans, UK sales & marketing director, said: "We've received 13 enquiries for a one-person office since the middle of August, which accounts for some 25% of all workspace enquires we've received during the period.

"In fact, this is more than double the enquiry level for a one-person office that we received during the months of June and July and would seem to be a positive indicator of a resurgence in the number of start-ups looking to locate to Reading.

"We've also witnessed a higher than usual demand for one-person office space in central London, but the highest demand currently is in Reading."

He said some of the demand was homeworkers now wanting offices instead of using virtual office space where their mail and calls appeared to be directed to an office while they worked remotely. Avanta has launched a shared office service for £299 a month which Mr Evans said allows useful networking. About a quarter of the new enquiries are from IT businesses.

He added: "The new shared space facility is perfect for those businesses that not only want to be based in a centrally-located professional environment, but also sharing space with others in the IT industry."
