ROYAL Mail bosses met with staff to reassure them over this weekend's move to a new centre.

As revealed exclusively in the Chronicle's sister paper the Midweek, the Caversham Road Mail Centre will close on Saturday and staff will move to a new delivery office in Gillette Way, Whitley.

Its distribution centre was moved to Swindon six months ago leaving just deliveries and collection at Caversham Road.

Union representatives had expressed concern that the Whitley site was not ready but Royal Mail spokesman Richard Hall told the Chronicle that a meeting was held at the site with members of the Communication Workers Union on Wednesday.

He said: "We met with the union and no issues were raised.

"The move will go ahead at the weekend and be operational from Monday. Letters are going out to all the customers this week."

There will be no job losses as a result of the move and no changes to employees' duties.

Customers who cannot get to Gillette Way who need to collect parcels can arrange for another delivery or arrange to have items left at a local post office for collection.
