THAMES Water plans to create an operations management centre at Reading's Green Park and could be moving hundreds of staff there.

The company said it has not yet signed any agreement but it is believed to be interested in one of Prudential's new buildings in South Oak Way.

The move involves centralising a number of its functions on one site and is likely to mean the staff currently in Reading Bridge House and other buildings moving to the new centre.

Spokeswoman Rebecca Johnson said Clearwater Court in Vastern Road will remain the company head office. She added: "We are in the process of centralising a number of core operational functions to one place which will be known as the Operations Management Centre. This will have a significant impact on efficiency, cost reduction and improved customer service. Green Park in Reading has been identified as a preferred location."

Thames Water has had a long-running partnership with Green Park owner Prudential to develop homes, a hospital, the Hilton Hotel and offices at Southside along the A33.
