AN investigation is underway at a wildlife park after a miniature train derailed leaving 23 people hurt.
The narrow gauge railway at Beale Park was immediately closed following the crash at 1pm on Saturday and will remain shut until investigations have been completed.
A woman and two children were taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital where the Chronicle understands they were treated for minor injuries but not admitted. An air ambulance was also called but the remaining passengers were treated by paramedics at the scene.
Park director Nick Bailey said: 'The contractor who runs the railway had independent investigators in yesterday to look at the situation and run some tests. The Health and Safety Executive is also carrying out an investigation and we will hopefully get a positive out come some time this week.'
A statement released by Beale Park added: 'Mr Nick Bailey and his staff were very upset to hear that members of the public were injured and he would like to praise his staff for their prompt actions.
'Beale Park would like to express its concern for those involved, while reassuring other visitors that their safety in the park is paramount.'
