* AFTER the meeting on Wednesday, it is obvious that while some residents in Lower Earley would benefit from the proposed changes, there will be probably more losers.
This does not just affect Reading. Many Wokingham families also stand to lose out from the changes, particularly those who currently live in the Holt catchment who will now be moved to the Maiden Erlegh catchment but will be too far away to get in. Reading residents are not asking to be treated differently from Wokingham residents, we want the same - to be able to go to the nearest local school.
Unfortunately Lower Earley residents have been wrongly led to believe that most Reading residents live closer to Bulmershe than to ME, when in fact the opposite is true, as anyone who can read a map can figure out.
Wokingham council have repeatedly let down their own residents over the years, firstly not building a school in Lower Earley and following this by closing Ryeish Green.
ME like other schools was built as a Berkshire school to serve Berkshire people. An artificial boundary should not be a factor.
