* I can’t believe Wokingham Council are proposing to ban my children applying to their nearest comprehensive, Maiden Erlegh.

I live on Talfourd Avenue which, according to the online consultation document, is no longer in Earley. This is news to me - I’ve always considered myself an Earley dweller.

If I don’t like it I can wade through a confusing 28 page document then reply to an online questionnaire which would baffle Stephen Hawking.

There is much talk of maintaining natural communities, sustainability and other modern buzzwords which fail to explain why my kids will have to cross a motorway and train line, instead of going to the end of Talfourd Avenue and turning right.

Are we losing our choice of secondary schools because we live just inside the Reading Boundary? Isn’t that discrimination? Surely schools admission should be based on proximity or do we want to encourage car use?
