POLICE made two arrests as part of an on-going campaign to stamp out crime in west Reading.

Sixteen officers from the Oxford Road neighbourhood police teams had stalked the streets last weekend as part of a high-visibility patrol.

Two 31-year-olds, Sarah Gillett, of Argyle Road and Marcin Baron, of Gower Street, were both charged with causing a public nuisance and were bailed to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court on December 1.

Officers also launched 36 stop searches, and slapped cautions on two cannabis users and a kerb crawler.

Oxford Road South neighbourhood team Sergeant Zahid Aziz, who oversaw the operation, said: "The neighbourhood team will tackle and challenge all forms of crime and any behaviour that brings down the quality of life of residents, from prostitution to vehicle crime and drugs."

He added: "The feedback I am getting from residents and businesses is very positive and we will endeavour to run more operations as well as doing day-to-day policing."
