HARRIET Harman visited Reading yesterday and said Labour were the "underdogs" in the election battle.
The deputy Labour leader, who is also minister for women, was speaking at a low-key home visit in Southcote Lane.
She said: "We want to make sure Reading has really good representatives in Parliament, but obviously this is a very very tight election. This is a hard fought election, we are the underdogs, but we are fighting to win."
The meeting took place at the home of Bobbie Richardson, a former Southcote ward councillor, who said: "I was very proud that she chose to come. She was not afraid to have any questions of her and gave some very good answers. It was a good opportunity for people from the local community to be able to put some questions to her."
Reading Youth MP Josh Harsant, 17, was one of the local representatives in the meeting.
He said: "This is the first time I have met a Government minister and I am very impressed. She spoke to me about opportunities for young people."
She also talked about affordable homes and the need for more housing and had a cheering message for supporters of the Save the Bath Road Reservoir campaign.
