A THUG who fractured a 25-year-old's eye socket by kicking her in the face has been jailed for six years.

Fintan Burke launched the vicious attack in a house on Waylen Street attacking the woman who he knew at 6pm on July 22.

The 27-year-old was arrested and charged later the same day.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Sukhpreet Singh, formerly of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit in Reading, said: "This was a nasty offence which left the victim with a fractured eye socket.

"The defendant showed no remorse in trial and never gave an account to the police when interviewed. In court, he stated the injury to the victim was caused by someone else.

"I'd like to thank the victim for her courage in coming forward and hope this sentencing helps her to gain some closure on the incident.

"This result shows that domestic abuse offences will not be tolerated in our communities and that victims do not have to suffer in silence."

Burke, of no fixed abode, was convicted of one count of causing grievous bodily harm after a three-day trial at Reading Crown Court.

Appearing on Friday, June 2, he was jailed for six years.
