A YOUNG drug dealer who tried to outrun police officers was today (Sunday) facing a three-year prison sentence.

Eagle-eyed officers spotted 18-year-old Broli Martin approach a group of suspected drug users, appearing to make an exchange.

They approached Martin to challenge him but the teenager sprinted away along Southampton Street, Reading.

When chasing officers caught up with him, he appeared to swallow a quantity of drugs.

Martin admitted a string of drug supply offences and was jailed for three years.

A police spokesman said: "On March 29 this year Martin was spotted by police officers approaching a group of suspected drug users in Southampton Street, Reading, appearing to make an exchange.

"Martin was challenged by police officers and a lengthy foot pursuit followed. He was arrested and appeared to swallow a quantity of drugs.

"Martin was charged and remanded the following day in connection with the offences.

"A total of £1,300 of cash was also seized and forfeited as proceeds of crime."

Martin, of Palmerstone Road, Enfield, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court after admitted possession with intent to supply both crack cocaine and heroin.

"County line drug dealing involves people travelling to Reading from London to deal drugs to our local community. This causes untold harm to the community and we work to protect those at risk of being exploited.

"Our Stronghold campaign is a commitment to tackle organised crime in our region, working closely with our partners to disrupt and prevent the activities of organised crime groups."
