THE TOWN'S iconic bus firm is celebrating its 20th anniversary at its Great Knollys Street depot.

Soon-to-depart chief executive Martijn Gilbert reflected on the enhancements and refurbishments that have taken place since the firm first moved in.

And despite being 20 years old, the site is still regarded as one of the most modern and state-of-the-art facilities in the nation's bus industry.

It has helped provide what Reading Buses describe as a "clean and professional working environment to deliver the best possible services to customers".

Mr Gilbert added: “As Reading, and therefore our company, continues to grow, we are having to get better at using the parking space in the depot and it is not unforeseeable that, at current growth rates, additional land or premises may be required in the coming years.

“It is testament to everyone’s hard work that 20 years on we have so many members of our team who remember the move and the official opening in the July by the then Minister of Transport Gavin Strang MP.

”In fact, there are no fewer than 82 people working here now - 13.5 per cent of our total number of employees of 614 - who were with the company when we moved to the facility.”
