FITNESS fanatics can benefit from a new 'Trim Trail' at Linear Park.

The trail, which was installed last month, is made up of nine pieces of exercise equipment.

Residents have 18 exercises to choose from as well as two stretch stations, which can be used at the beginning or end of the trail.

The project was led by the Friends of Linear Park group, as a result of a survey to find out what neighbours wanted.

Jeanette Clifford, West Berkshire Council's lead member for countryside, said: "This project is a great example of partnership working between the council, Friends of Linear Park and Holybrook Parish Council. Working together in this way means that we have been able to give the community exactly what they asked for.”

The trail was installed near Fords Farm, as residents felt the area was underused and could benefit from a revamp.

Holybrook Parish Council's developers' contributions and councillors' funding bid helped to raise £13,000 to pay for the equipment.

Angela McMahon, chairman of Friends of Linear Park, said: "I am very proud of the achievements of the the Friends of Linear Park. The Trim Trail has been a long time in coming and now everyone can enjoy exercising in the park at anytime. It's already getting a lot of use and providing benefits to local people."

Cllr Peter Argyle, who helped campaign for funding, added: “I’m delighted that my successful bid will contribute towards something practical and tangible that will make a real contribution to encouraging healthy lifestyles.”

The equipment will be maintained by both West Berkshire Council and Friends of Linear Park.
