A DEATH crash which saw a motorbike rider killed was at the centre of a police investigation today (Monday).

Emergency services rushed to the scene after a Suzuki 600 motorcycle, ridden by a 36-year-old man from Reading, crashed into a blue Fiat Punton.

A crash probe was launched and it immediately became clear the two vehicles were travelling in the same direction when they collided shortly after 11am on Sunday.

The collision happened on the A338, just south of Newton Toney, near Swindon, and the driver of the car was not injured.

However, the motorcyclist was tragically declared dead at the scene.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "Whilst travelling south towards Newton Toney a Suzuki 600 motorcycle, ridden by a 36-year-old man from the Reading area, collided with a blue Fiat Punto travelling in the same direction.

"The driver of the Fiat was a 30-year-old woman from Swindon.

"Sadly the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"The road was closed for a number of hours to allow collision investigators to carry out examination of the scene.

"The investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing."

It is not yet known when the investigation is likely to be concluded.

Anyone with information should contact Wiltshire Police on 101.
