Several cars have been damaged following a dramatic police pursuit through the centre of Reading.

Witnesses looked on in shock as the damaged red Nissan, which had its rear bumper hanging off, was chased by at least three police cars through town and along the IDR.

Dramatic footage taken by bystander Malcolm Morrell shows the car being pursued by a police vehicle at the roundabout near Reading Station.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said the car was pursued after it failed to stop and confirmed the incident is not terror related.

The Nissan travelled along a number of roads during the pursuit, including Forbury Road, Vaston Road, Friar Street, London Road and Redlands Road.

However, the car was eventually abandoned at the roadside and officers are still hunting the suspect.

The spokesman said: "There was a police pursuit after the driver of a red Nissan Note failed to stop.

"This is not a terrorist incident.

"During the pursuit two other vehicles were damaged by the pursuing vehicle in Caversham Road.

"A bus was also damaged by the Nissan in Market Place. A police vehicle was also damaged.

"The Nissan was found discarded and police are seeking the occupants.

"Anyone with any information, including dashcam footage of the vehicle, is urged to call 101 and quote reference 542 (7/4)."

An earlier police report suggested that a pedestrian had been injured during the pursuit, but this has since been corrected.

Thames Valley Police has now issued an appeal for anyone with footage of the pursuit to come forward.

Investigating officer, PC James Baker of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "I am appealing to anyone who has any footage of the vehicle, a red Nissan Note, or anyone with footage of the pursuit.

"It is also possible that business owners and residents have CCTV that can help our appeal, if you do please call 101 and quote reference 43180103738.

"Your footage may help us to identify the driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle.

"The car was driven in such a dangerous manner that it collided with numerous vehicles, including a a police vehicle.

"The vehicle was also driven through pedestrian areas in Reading town centre. Thankfully, no-one was injured during the pursuit."
