SHOPPERS raised an incredible £21,000 which was pledged to the Royal British Legion.

The massive cheque was presented by Oracle manager Andy Briggs to the Poppy Appeal organiser for Caversham, Pauline Palmer.

Mrs Palmer said: "The Legion is always so grateful to the Management and Staff at the Oracle for all the help and support they give to the Appeal. Without their help and the help of the Members and Friends of Caversham Branch, Reading Rotary Club, Maiden Erlegh Rotary Club, Reading Lions and Scouts and Cubs this magnificent total would be out of sight.

"We look forward to collecting again this year on Armed Forces Day and during the Poppy Appeal to be able to provide for our Armed Forces personnel, past and present, when they, or their dependents, need help."

The Oracle raised a total of £21,392.93.
