POLICE are appealing for a specific witness to come forward in connection with a fatal crash.

Howard Walker died after he was hit by a bus on Great Knollys Street on october 20 at around 11.45pm.

The 51-year-old man, from Thames & Kennet Marina, was identified by a coroner ahead of his inquest.

The driver of the bus stopped at the scene and nobody else was injured or on the bus at the time.

Investigating officers from Thames Valley Police would like to speak to the driver of a grey people carrier, who was believed to be behind the bus before the crash occurred.

PC Naomi Hames, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Bicester, said: "As part of our investigation in to this collision in which a man died we would like to trace the driver of a vehicle which was travelling behind the bus prior to the collision.

"The vehicle is possibly grey in colour and a people carrier sized vehicle.

"It had a white sign on the roof and I believe it may have been a taxi or a private hire vehicle.

"The vehicle turned left off the A329 Caversham Road into Great Knolly's Street shortly after the bus.

"If you believe you may have been the driver of this vehicle, please could you come forward and speak to police as you may have witnessed something which could assist our investigation.

"I would also like to continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle or pedestrian before the collision who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch."

It was the first of two fatal collision to take place in the town centre within an hour.

A 44-year-old woman, identified as Karen Dance, of Grovelands Road, was struck by a Range Rover on the Inner Distribution Road between Castle Street and Oxford Road at arouns 12.45am.

The inquest into Walker's death was opened by the Berkshire Coroner's Office, but the date for the full hearing is yet to be determined.
