A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after a man was stabbed in the leg.

Members of the public swooped to the aid of the 17-year-old boy who had been involved in a fight on Friar Street on Monday afternoon.

The victim received treatment for a stab wound at the Treatz dessert parlour and officers from Thames Valley Police cordoned part of the road outside the British Heart Foundation store.

A 17-year-old from Birmingham was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where he remains.

The offenders are described as black and aged in their late teens to early twenties.

A scenewatch, which was in place in the area while officers carried out inquiries, was lifted at around 5.30pm after police searched Forbury Gardens.

Detective Inspector David Turton, based at Reading Force CID, said: “Detectives are investigating this incident and are currently working to identify and locate the offenders.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who saw the incident.

"It occurred during a busy time of the day and many passers-by may have witnessed the altercation so I would appeal to them to come forward and speak to officers if they have not already done so.

“Early enquiries suggest it is not believed to be a random attack. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information should call police on 101 or approach an officer in the area.”
