A TEENAGER was today being quizzed over an attempted murder after a young man was stabbed several times last night (Tuesday).

The victim, a man in his twenties, remains in a life-threatening condition in hospital after he was attacked in Foxhays Road, Reading.

He was approached by two people before a brawl broke out and he was stabbed.

Paramedics rushed to the scene shortly after 10pm and it immediately became clear the man had suffered severe injuries.

Thames Valley Police officers were today seen knocking on residents' doors as they probed the shocking attack.

The force confirmed a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder taken into police custody.

A spokesman said: "Thames Valley Police has arrested a boy in connection with an incident in which a man sustained stab wounds in Reading.

"At around 10pm yesterday (26/9) the victim, a man in his twenties, was approached by two people in Foxhays Road.

"An altercation took place in which the victim sustained stab wounds.

"Officers and the ambulance service attended. The victim was taken to hospital, where he currently remains, with life threatening injuries.

"Officers are in the process of conducting enquiries in the area."

Police believe the incident was a targeted attack and urged anyone with concerns to speak to patrolling officers.

Detective inspector Dave Turton added: "I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information which could assist the investigation. Anyone with information should come forward and speak to police.

"Members of the public are likely to see additional patrols taking place in the area. Although this is not believed to be a random attack, we are aware that incidents such as this can cause people to have concerns. Members of the public can approach and speak to officers to raise any issues or concerns, or if they have any information."
