THIS is the footage of a dramatic police pursuit which saw a reckless motorist drive more than 70mph in a 30mph zone.

Disqualified driver Martyn Allen was jailed for 19 months after he sparked a high-octane police chase in December last year.

His blue Daewoo Kalos reached speeds of 75mph when officers chased him along Grovelands Road, The Meadway, Halls Road, Langley Hill and old Bath Road in Reading.

The 30-year-old eventually bailed from the vehicle and officers chased him on foot before eventually arresting him.

Allen was today facing a 19 month prison sentence after he was convicting of dangerous driving and failing to surrender to police.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “On December 19 2016 at around 7.20pm roads policing officers attempted to make Allen stop in his car, a blue Daewoo Kalos.

“He did not stop and instead drove off dangerously along Grovelands Road, The Meadway, Halls Road, Langley Hill and old Bath Reading.

“He then got out of the vehicle and officers had to chase him on foot and he was eventually arrested.”

TVP released video footage which shows officers chasing Allen through the streets of Reading.

Investigating officer Jamie Payne added: “In a bid to evade officers Martyn Allen undertook some very dangerous driving around a residential area in Reading. He drove up to 75mph in a 30mph, on the wrong side of the road on several occasions and off road at the end where I made tactical contact with him to bring the pursuit to an end.

"I gave chase on foot and caught up with him as he tried to climb over a fence 200 metres away. He put many members of the public at risk whether they were pedestrians or other roads users. It was fortunate that nobody was hurt by his reckless actions that day."

Allen, of Whitby Green, Caversham, was convicted of a single count of dangerous driving, one charge of failing to surrender to police custody and one count of driving while disqualified.

He was jailed for a total of 19 months.
