Thames Water runners flushed with success

A TEAM of 11 Thames Water workers are flushed with success after raising more than £22,000 for WaterAid by completing the London Marathon.
They did plenty of fund-raising in advance with a bingo night, taking part in the Reading pancake race and colleague Ant Tyler, leading the team for a fourth year, spent a day ironing clothes.
Ant, Thames Water's technical scheduling manager, said: "It was an incredible effort to raise so much money for WaterAid. Not one of us lost sight of how privileged we are to take part in such a fantastic event - the best marathon in the world.
"Levels of fitness are part of the selection process but the most important aspect is raising money for WaterAid. We did a whole range of fundraising activities in the build-up to the marathon and by the time all the money is collected we should be up to £23,000. The commitment of the team was first class."
WaterAid, which uses practical solutions to provide clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people.
Team members Martin Brockington and Geoff Clarke ran together dressed as Humphrey the Camel and finished in 4hrs 59m.
But proving that two legs are better than four, the rest of the Thames Water team's times were: Duncan Smith 3hrs 8m; Stuart Smith 3hrs 45m; Ant Tyler 3hrs 51m; Natalie Slater 3hrs 55m; Andy Gingell 3hrs 57m; Steve Wroblewski 3hrs 58m; Keith Gardner 4hrs; Margriet Drew 4hrs 11m; Helen Main 4hrs 32m; Andre Galley 4hrs 42m.
