THREE people have been left with serious injuries following a two-car collision in Whitley Wood Lane.

They were all taken to hospital and the road remains closed off as emergency services clear the scene.

The collision took place at around 2pm today and saw firefighters rescue two people trapped in one of the cars.

All three patients have been taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital for treatment to their injuries.

Following the collision police officers have closed off the road and are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible.

The number 6 Reading Buses service has also been diverted while emergency services work on the scene.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "All patients went to the Royal Berkshire Hospital by land ambulance with serious injuries."

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "We were called at 2.02pm to a road traffic collision involving two cars.

"Two people were trapped in one of the cars and they have been removed by the fire service.

"There was also a third person who has been injured."
