THIS could be the future at the Madejski Stadium as Reading FC's owners formally submit their application to transform the club's grounds.

In these newly released images the scale and size of the Royal Elm Park revamp - which promises more than 600 homes and 2,000 jobs - are plain to see.

A soaring metal spike pinned to the north east corner of the stadium marks the main thoroughfare leading towards flats, a new hotel and on towards the planned Green Park Station.

From the main central plaza Royals supporters, office workers and visitors to the planned ice rink and convention centre would then fan out through the 18,000m2 public space surrounding the complex.

A 6,000 person capacity convention centre to the north - dubbed The International - is hoped to help the town draw in big names in both business and live entertainment.

Nigel Howe, chief executive of Reading FC, said: "Royal Elm Park is a unique opportunity for Reading to deliver a world-class convention centre that will put the town on the map and enable us to compete on a world stage.

"It will also benefit the football club and will be important for Reading's future growth, attracting national and international investment and offering tangible benefits for local people with new homes, jobs and an improved match-day experience."

A 246-bed hotel with space, a multi-storey car park with more than 600 spaces, cafes, bars and restaurants are also included in the designs which were submitted to Reading Borough Council.
