AN INVESTIGATION into an alleged rape in Whitley has been discontinued.

Thames Valley Police has today confirmed their efforts - which began following an incident on Monday morning - will be brought to a close.

Officers were called after a woman in her twenties who had been kicked the side and left passed out by a group of three men said she had been raped.

The attack took place in Longbarn Lane Recreation Ground but is no longer being treated as rape.

Det Insp Nick Watts, from Reading Force CID, said: “Following extensive enquiries during this investigation, it has been established that a rape did not take place.

“I would like to stress that no one should hesitate in coming forward if they have been a victim of crime of any sort.

“Thames Valley Police takes all reports of this nature extremely seriously and will always conduct a thorough investigation.”
