THREE burglars carrying crowbars made off with a bag full of cash after raiding the tills of a supermarket in Newbury in the early hours of Wednesday.

The men entered Marks and Spencer in Newbury Retail Park at 3.30am by using the crowbars to open the automatic doors, before filling a holdall bag with cash from the self service tills.

Five members of staff were at the supermarket when they broke in, although none of them have been hurt despite being threatened during the incident on Pinchington Lane.

The offenders were seen wearing all black with their faces covered, wearing red rubber gloves.

Investigating officer, Det Con Michael Watts, said: "This was a distressing ordeal for the victims and I would urge anyone who witnessed anything suspicious, or noticed any vehicles driving away from the retail park around this time to come forward and speak to either police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

"I also appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the burglary to come forward."
