A gang that beat up a man for his wallet as he walked home from a night out and left him in hospital is being hunted by police.

The man was followed by three men along the Oxford Road between Lorne Street and Argyle Street.

The gang crept up behind him and put an arm around the victim's shoulder forced him into Argyle Street.

The attackers took the man's of his wallet, which contained a cash and credit cards.

A member of the public stopped and paid for a taxi for the man to get home.

The 38-year-old was left with several cuts after the attack, but was discharged from Royal Berkshire Hospital shortly after attending on Sunday September 20.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said a 22-year-old man and a 29-year-old man from Reading have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and released on police bail until October 29.

The spokesman said: "At around 2.30am on Sunday 20 September a 38-year-old man was followed by three men on the Oxford Road between Lorne Street and Argyle Street where the victim was walking following a night out in Reading. During the robbery the victim received cuts.

"All three offenders were white, in their late teens to early twenties. One of the men was around 5ft 8ins tall, slim, with short mousey blonde hair, but he had his hood up."
