A MAN was rushed to hospital with suspected head and spinal injuries after he was trapped in his garden due to the icy conditions.

Firefighters from Wokingham Road were called to Dark Lane in Wargrave at around 7.30pm on Thursday to reports of a male trapped in a confined space.

The middle-aged casualty had fallen from a height and was wedged between his shed and some trees.

Crews had to cut away some of the materials before he was freed and taken away in an ambulance.

Darren Barrett, watch manager at Wokingham Road fire station said: "He probably slipped due to the weather.

"We had to do some space creation and used the electric saw to clear the area so that we could get the longboard in and extricate the casualty.

"He was taken to hospital with suspected head and spinal injuries and we were there for about an hour."

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service would also like to remind residents to drive carefully if they are planning on making any important journeys today (Friday).
