FIRE crews had to use cutting gear to rescue a driver from their car after a crash.

Emergency services were sent to Mill Lane, Tidmarsh shortly after 2.45pm following reports of a two-car collision.

A spokesman for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Dee Road and Caversham Road were called at 2.47pm to a two-car collision on Mill Lane, Tidmarsh.

"They used cutting gear to safely remove one person from a car.

"Firefighters were at the scene for around an hour and have now returned to station."

Both drivers are believed to have suffered minor injuries and the road is currently closed in both directions.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 2.45pm by a member of the public informing us of a two-car collision on Mill Lane.

"There were two patients – one in each vehicle – and both were taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with minor injuries.

"We sent two ambulances and a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle to the scene."
