A screw in the Thames has won has won a major sustainability award.

Pridewater Estates Ltd commissioned the innovative Archimedes screw to built near Sonning to power their marinas.

They bought in Greenford Ltd to construct the screw and the project has now scooped the Sustainability and Resilience award from the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).

The awards were presented at the ICE South East England Awards by former ICE president professor Jean Venables and TV star Maggie Philbin.

Greenford also won the and the Thames Valley Award for Engineering Excellence.

Suzanne Moroney, director of ICE South East England, said: "The Hydropower Station, Sonning has used a number of innovative techniques to achieve its clean energy objective.

"It puts South East England on the map for green energy initiatives and has taken a great leap towards providing value to the wider community and look forward to seeing its full completion."
